About Louise
I am Louise Barr, a BACP-registered therapeutic counsellor based in Bromley, Kent. With over 10 years of experience working in the field of addiction, I support capable adults facing burnout, overwhelm, or feeling out of step with themselves who are ready to examine what lies beneath the surface.
My practice is trauma-informed, relational, and nature-connected. Together, we safely explore your inner world, your body, and your life’s context, helping you move through old patterns toward a steadier, more authentic way of being.
My approach is pluralistic, drawing from multiple therapeutic modalities to meet the unique needs of each journey, as I believe no single theory holds the truth for everyone. My core training was person-centred and psychodynamic.
For you, this means our work is flexible and collaborative; rather than fitting you into a model, we discover together what tools and perspectives resonate with your life experience.
I weave together humanistic inquiry, somatic body-awareness, and nature-based regulation, with a particular interest in how the natural world can anchor us during times of transition.
Whether we meet in a consultation room, online, or in the woods, our work is always about moving toward a more embodied and grounded way of being.
I’m a qualified integrative counsellor (CPCAB Level 4).
I have several years of experience supporting people through complex life experiences, trauma, identity shifts and emotional intensity.
Many of the adults I work with identify as highly sensitive (HSP) — people who experience the world with greater depth and intensity than most. This sensitivity often intersects with complex or long-held trauma (sometimes called CPTSD).It is in that intersection — between depth, overwhelm and the weight of old patterns — where much of my clinical work takes place.
My work is grounded in ongoing learning, reflective practice and a commitment to anti-oppressive, neurodivergent-affirming, trauma-informed care.
Professional experience
Before moving into private practice, I spent three years working in the homelessness sector, supporting people navigating trauma, crisis, addiction, mental health challenges and systemic barriers. I also worked in a residential addiction rehab, where I gained experience in group work, relapse prevention, emotional regulation and supporting people through deep change. These environments shaped my understanding of resilience, shame, survival strategies and the many ways people adapt to overwhelming circumstances.

My approach to learning
I see training as an ongoing, lifelong process. I regularly attend CPD, workshops and engage in professional reading to deepen my understanding of trauma, neurodivergence, identity and the many ways people make meaning of biological and spiritual experiences.
In our sessions, we look at the 'whole self'.
We honour your intuition, explore your values, and ask the deeper questions that often emerge when old ways of coping no longer serve you.
It is a process of reconnecting with the parts of yourself that may have been lost or silenced.
I hold a deep respect for existential inquiry and the spiritual—though not religious—dimensions of the human experience, helping you navigate life’s big questions in a grounded, human way.
Ethical practice and your safety are at the core of everything I do. I adhere strictly to the BACP Ethical Framework and engage in regular supervision to ensure I am providing the highest standard of care.
Beyond my work, I find my own grounding in nature and movement, constantly learning from the same rhythms of growth and stillness that I encourage my clients to explore.
I look forward to meeting you exactly where you are and walking alongside you as you discover your path forward.
